Northwestern downed Michigan State 129-111 Friday night at the Norris Aquatics Center to pick up its second Big Ten victory of the season. Seniors Dan Williams and Mark Hamming led the 'Cats, each posting two victories apiece.
After Northwestern took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.22, Williams got things rolling in the individual events, winning the 1000 free with a time of 9:31.27.
NU followed up Williams' first victory of the day by finishing first and second in two consecutive events. The 'Cats dominated the 200 free as Matt Wever won the event with a time of 1:41.79, while Steve Petric follwed with a time of 1:43.50. Meanwhile, Shelby Clark and Ben Dexter finished one/two in the 50 free with times of 21.62 and 21.67, respectively.
Hamming picked up his first victory of the day in the 400 IM with a time of 4:00.50 and followed it up two events later by placing first in the 100 fly with a time of 50.41.
Freshman sensation Matt Grevers posted another first-place finish, winning the 100 free with a time of 44.40.
Williams' second victory came after swimming a 4:40.46 in the 500 freestyle, which was more than three seconds faster than any other time. Diver Mike Oxman tallied a first-place finish in the three-meter competition with a score of 295.05.
The Wildcats are back in action again tomorrow as they host Eastern Michigan and Illinois-Chicago at the Norris Aquatics Center at 2 p.m.
