IOWA CITY, Iowa - Northwestern dropped its second match in a row, losing 1-0 to ninth-ranked Iowa in a nonconference match at Grant Field in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Hawkeyes out-shot the 18th-ranked Wildcats 14-5 in the contest en route to their third win of the season. NU, meanwhile, falls to 3-3 on the year after a 3-1 start.

After battling to a scoreless first half of play, the Hawkeyes' Pattie Gillern scored her fifth goal of the season when she beat NU goalkeeper Sherri-Anne Nyberg at 48:17.

Northwestern was not able to generate much offense in the match and Iowa goalie Barb Weinberg was forced to stop only three shots and none in the second half.

Nyberg was busy in net, making nine saves in the losing effort, including seven in the second half alone.

NU is back in action at home Sunday, Sept., 21 when they take on Kent State at the Leonard B. Thomas Sports Complex. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
