EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern suffered its first home loss of the season, falling to Delaware 2-1 at the Leonard B. Thomas Sports Complex.
The Wildcats (3-2-0) fell behind for the third game in a row when the Blue Hens' Amanda Warrington scored a goal only two and a half minutes into the contest, giving Delaware (5-2-0) a 1-0 lead.
NU's Katie Walshauser evened the count at 1-1 10 minutes later when she knocked a loose ball past Delaware goalkeeper Megan Allen.
However, the Wildcats could not muster much more offense than that. The stingy Delaware defense held the 'Cats to only four shots, and none in the second half.
Erica LaBar tallied the game winner at 22:38 when she a pass from Jessica Breault and ripped a corner shot past NU goalie Kelly Augustine.
Augustine made three saves in a losing effort while Allen was forced to save only one shot for Delaware.
NU heads to Iowa City, Iowa for a nonconference match with the Hawkeyes on Wednesday, Sept. 17th. The game is set for 3 p.m.
