EVANSTON, Ill. - For the second consecutive week, a Wildcat was named Big Ten Player of the Week. Senior outside hitter Iwona Lodzik (Tarnobrzeg, Poland/Tarnobrzeg) earned the honor after leading Northwestern to three consecutive victories at the Orange and Green Challenge in Miami, Fla. over the weekend. This marks the first time since 1984 that two Wildcats have earned the honor consecutively; Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) was selected last week.
Lodzik had three double-double performances over the course of the tournament. The All-Big Ten candidate led Northwestern against 2002 NCAA participant George Mason in the first match of the tournament, recording a team-high 17 kills and 16 digs. She then notched 23 kills and 14 digs against host Miami (Fla.), who was a Sweet Sixteen participant in 2002. In the final match of the tournament, Lodzik recorded 19 kills, 13 digs and a career-high .607 hitting percentage against Columbia.
The Poland native averaged 5.9 kills and 4.3 digs per game at the tournament, while maintaining a .485 hitting percentage. For her exceptional play in the tournament, Lodzik was named to the Orange and Green Challenge All-Tournament Team.
