EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern rallied from a 2-1 deficit late in the second half to defeat Ball State, 3-2 at the Leonard B. Thomas Sports Complex.

Ball State struck first when Chantelle Isaac scored an unassisted goal in the 11th minute to give the Cardinals (3-2-0) a 1-0 advantage.

NU fought right back, however, and tied the contest when Ellen Schlafly scored her third goal of the season after taking a pass from Candice Cooper and beat Ball State goalie Tracey Banister.

With no time remaining in the first half, Ball State's Afton Hess added a goal when she knocked a shot past a sprawling Kelly Augustine off a penalty corner, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage at the break.

The second half belonged to the 'Cats (3-1-0), however. Senior Katie Walshauser knocked a loose ball past Bannister in the 57th minute to tie the match at 2-2.

Freshman Meghan Small tallied the game-winner after redirecting a shot from Cooper, who took a corner pass from Walshauser with a little over 10 minutes remaining.

NU was able to control possession for the remainder of the match and held on for their second straight home-victory.

Augustine was strong in goal for the 'Cats, stopping eight Ball State shots. Bannister made three saves for the Cardinals.

NU returns to action on Monday when they face off with Delaware at 3 p.m. at the Leonard B. Thomas Sports Complex.
