DURHAM, N.H. - Katie White and Heidi Anderson scored goals in the opening four minutes of the game and the University of New Hampshire field hockey team fended off Northwestern University to win Monday afternoon's battle of the Wildcats, 2-1, at Memorial Field.

UNH (1-1) took a 1-0 lead just 38 seconds into the game when White converted a pass from Caitlin Gillen into a low, hard shot that found the back of the cage. Just over three minutes later, New Hampshire took a 2-0 lead on its second shot of the game.

On a restart from the top of the circle, Jenn Harrison's pass into the middle deflected off the leg pads of NU goalie Sherri-Anne Nyberg. Anderson stopped the rebound and lifted the ball over Nyberg into the open cage at 3:46.

Northwestern (1-1) produced pressure on three penalty corners at the end of the first half but UNH took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

NU trimmed the deficit to 2-1 at 39:33. Christine Nannicelli stopped the ball in front of charging UNH goalkeeper Christine Buckley and lifted a pass over her right leg pad to Megan Sieberg, who one-touched the ball into the open cage.

The host Wildcats maintained possession in the much of the final minutes to preserve thier one-goal lead.

Nyberg finished with four saves for the 'Cats, while Buckley stopped six shots.
