EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern erupted for 18 runs and 21 hits to win its sixth straight game, downing the Iowa Hawkeyes 18-3 Friday afternoon at Rocky Miller Park. Eleven Wildcats hit safely in the game, while nine players drove in runs. Junior center fielder David Gresky (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Ignatius) continued to swing a hot bat, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, including his team-leading eighth home run.

Freshman Anthony Wycklendt (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) also homered in the game, coming off the bench to hit a two-out grand slam in the eighth inning. The round-tripper cleared the center-field backdrop in straightaway center field. It was Wycklendt's fifth home run of the season.

Junior right-hander Dan Konecny (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) started on the mound for Northwestern, throwing eight complete innings. He allowed three runs, all courtesy of an eighth-inning home run. Until that point, Konecny had limited the Hawkeye offense to just five hits while striking out five. Konecny finished with six punch-outs in the game.

Sophomore Stanley Finch (Lubbock, Texas/Cooper), who began the game as the designated hitter, pitched a perfect ninth to end the game. At the plate, Finch was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Jon Mikrut (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) was 3-for-6 with three doubles, to give him 12 on the season. Both Mikrut and Gresky lead the team with a dozen two-baggers.

In all, eight of NU's 21 hits went for extra bases, as the 'Cats reached the double-digit hit mark for the third straight game and 14th time this season.

The Wildcats scored five runs in three different innings, to raise their overall record to 20-16, 11-8 in the Big Ten. NU has won five straight Big Ten games.

The Wildcats and Hawkeyes are back at it tomorrow, as the teams meet for a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Evanston.
