EVANSTON, Ill. - Iowa starter Nathan Johnson limited Northwestern to six hits in Saturday's second game as the Hawkeyes defeated NU 4-0. The loss comes on the heels of a 6-1 game one Wildcat victory. The loss snaps NU's seven-game win streak, and drops the 'Cats to 21-17 overall, 12-9 in the Big Ten.
The Wildcat offense couldn't get anything going as Johnson was helped by two line-drive double plays, while striking out six and walking none.
Iowa manufactured a run in the fourth and tacked on two more in the sixth and one more in the seventh for the victory.
Senior second baseman Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted) was the only Wildcat to have multiple hits, ending the game 2-for-3.
Left-handed Wildcat starter, Dan Brauer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) went the distance, dropping his record to 4-2. Despite giving up four runs (one earned), Brauer's ERA fell to 2.90. The freshman allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out five in the seven-inning contest.
The 'Cats and Hawkeyes will wrap up their four-game conference series with a single nine-inning contest tomorrow at 1 p.m.
