EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University freshman pitcher Courtnay Foster (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro) and sophomore outfielder Erin Mobley (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) have been honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as All-Mideast Region Second Team selections. In addition, Mobley has been named a first-team Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-District V selection.

Mobley finished with a team-leading .365 batting average and .551 slugging percentage this season. She set a school record with 98 total bases this season and tied the single-season mark for doubles with 13. Her 65 hits this season are the second most in NU history. Mobley also became the first Wildcat to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors since Brooke Siebel did so in 2000. She earned Big Ten All-Tournament team honors after hitting .400 (8-for-20) with a .520 on-base percentage.

A communication studies major, Mobley carries a 3.46 grade point average. As as Academic All-District honoree, she is now eligible for Academic All-American consideration. District V encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.2 and be either a starter or key reserve on their team.

Foster posted a 19-10 record in 2003 with a 1.32 earned run average. Her 292 strikeouts are the second most in a single season by a Northwestern pitcher. In addition, her average of 9.39 strikeouts per game is the second-highest season total in school history. Foster limited opposing batters to a .174 batting average.

She earned a league-leading three Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors and was named National Player of the Week by both USA Softball and NFCA/Louisville Slugger for the week of April 21-27. Foster was also named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team after setting tournament records of 30.1 innings pitched and 38 strikeouts.

Northwestern finished the 2003 season with a 36-19 record and earned an NCAA Regional berth for the first time since 2000. The Wildcats posted 36 victories, the fifth best total in NU history and the most since the 1995 season. The Wildcats finished sixth in the Big Ten with an 11-9 record and earned a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Tournament.
