EVANSTON, Ill. - The doubleheader scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sharon J. Drysdale Field between the Northwestern and DePaul softball teams has been canceled due to thunderstorms in the Evanston area. The games will not be rescheduled.
The twinbill was set to feature not only two of the top teams in the Chicagoland area and Illinois, but also nationally. The Blue Demons are currently ranked No. 6 by USA Today/NFCA and seventh by USA Softball. The Wildcats are ranked 30th in both polls.
Northwestern (30-15, 9-9 Big Ten) returns to action Saturday when it hosts Illinois (37-11-1, 11-5 Big Ten) for the final weekend of Big Ten and regular season play. Saturday's game is slated for a 1 p.m. start, while Sunday's contest begins at noon.
