Wildcats Fall to No. 1 Illini, 7-0

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Northwestern fell to top-ranked Illinois, 7-0, Saturday in Champaign, Ill. With the loss, NU dropped to 8-4 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten.

Illinois clinched the doubles point, winning all three contests. Jackie Jenkins (College Park, Ga./Westlake) and Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School) nearly upended second-ranked Michael Calkins and Amer Delic, but the Illini duo prevailed, 8-6. Jenkins and Perrin are 10-7 this season.

Ahmed Wahla (Lahore, Pakistan/Lahore American School) jumped on Pramod Dabir early, taking the first set 6-0. Dabir rebounded in the second set 6-4 en route to the win.

Tommy Hanus' (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) eight-match winning streak came to an end, as No. 22 Rajeev Ram won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Hanus is 18-9 on the season.

Northwestern returns to action March 21-23 at the Rice Invitational.
