HOUSTON, Texas - Northwestern fell to Clemson, 4-2, Saturday at the Rice Invitational. NU picked up wins at No. 1 and 2 singles, but the Tigers held on for the win. With the loss, NU dropped to 8-5 overall.
Sophomore Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) picked up his 19th win of the season against Nathan Thompson. Hanus fell behind a set before rallying for a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 win. Hanus is now 10-2 in dual action this season, all at the No. 1 spot. He has won nine of his last 10 matches.
Senior Jackie Jenkins (College Park, Ga./Westlake) and his brother Jarmaine picked up a win each. Jackie defeated Clemson's Micah Thompson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Jarmaine, who is a freshman for the Tigers, knocked off NU's Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School), 4-6,7-5, 6-2 at No. 4.
The teams did not play the doubles point after Clemson won four of the six singles points.
NU returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. against host Rice.
