
Wildcats Knock Off Sacred Heart, 17-4

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's lacrosse team defeated Sacred Heart, 17-4, Wednesday afternoon at Lakeside Field to improve to 3-0 on the season. The game was the season opener for the Pioneers.
Angela McMahon had four points (2 goals, 2 assists), while Lynda McCandlish added three goals and Courtney Flynn had two goals and an assist.
The Wildcats got off to a quick start and never looked back at a chilly Lakeside Field. Flynn had her two goals before the game was two minutes old, as NU scored six goals in the game's first seven minutes. Sacred Heart took advantage of a 'Cat lull with goals by JoAnn Montesarchio and Jackie Reichert, but Courtney Koester got NU started again with 12:16 to play in the half. By halftime, the Wildcats' lead was 11-2.
Northwestern scored three goals in a span of 2:06 to start the second half, then traded goals with Sacred Heart over a five-minute span before closing out the scoring on Kacee Must's first collegiate goal with 11:34 to play.
Donna McCann scored a goal and had an assist, and Ashley Koester had her first collegiate goal and also added an assist. Freshman Laura Glassanos had two goals.
Northwestern is in action again on Saturday, taking on Ohio University in its first American Lacrosse Conference game of 2003.
