EVANSTON, Ill. - The Ohio State women's lacrosse team got off to a quick start Sunday afternoon and never looked back, ultimately taking a 14-4 decision over Northwestern in an American Lacrosse Conference game at Lakeside Field.
The 17th-ranked Buckeyes improved to 5-1 (2-0 ALC) while 20th-ranked Northwestern fell to 5-1 (1-1 ALC).
Regina Oliver had a goal and an assist as the Buckeyes jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the game was five minutes old. NU got one back when Lindsey Munday converted a feed from Courtney Flynn, but OSU responded with three more goals to take a 6-1 advantage.
Northwestern cut the deficit to 6-2 when Flynn scored on an unassisted effort with 3:47 left in the half, but Ohio State quickly cut off any Wildcat momentum with three more goals before the break to take a 9-2 lead into halftime.
The second half started slowly, as NU broke the ice 6:35 into the stanza on Angela McMahon's goal. The Buckeyes came back with goals from Noemi Hites and Tracey Bounds, before Erin Flynn put home the Wildcats' final score of the day.
Shannon Wilson had a big game for the Bucks, scoring a goal and dishing out four assists. Oliver finished with three goals and an assist, while Tracey Bounds also had three goals and Noemi Hites had two goals and an assist.
Northwestern is on spring break now, and the Wildcats are back in action Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn., to meet another nationally ranked ALC foe in Vanderbilt. That game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Nashville. On Friday, NU will meet Johns Hopkins in Nashville at noon.
