HOUSTON, Texas - No. 31 Northwestern fell to Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-2, Monday at the Rice Invitational. Senior Jackie Jenkins (College Park, Ga./Westlake) and sophomore Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School) earned singles wins for NU, but it was not enough as the Wildcats dropped to 8-7 overall.
Jenkins defeated the Ragin Cajuns' Ivan Kovalev in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The loss was Kovalev's fifth in a row. Perrin upended Michael Tarkowski, 6-2, 6-3. Jenkins improved to 9-6 in dual competition, while Perrin upped his overall record to 11-13.
NU dropped all three doubles matches, as it closed out a seven-match road trip. The Wildcats went 0-3 at the invitational.
The Wildcats are next in action April 5 against Minnesota. Match time is set for noon at the Combe Tennis Center.
