Foster Named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman Courtnay Foster (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro) has been named the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week for her performance at the Worth Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. from Feb. 28-March 2. Foster shared the award with Ohio State's Katie Chain. It is the first such honor for Foster in her career.
Foster posted a 2-1 record with a 0.63 ERA in her three appearances at the tournament. She tied a then career-high by striking out nine as the Wildcats defeated sixth-ranked and defending national champion California 4-3 in eight innings.
In her next start against No. 7 Cal State Fullerton, Foster limited the Titans to just three hits and one unearned run over 7.1 innings in a tough-luck 1-0 loss. She closed out the tournament by recording another three-hitter in a 3-0 win over Portland State. Foster surrendered just one hit through the first six innings and finished with a then career-high 11 strikeouts against the Vikings.
To date, Foster has posted a 7-4 record with a 0.79 ERA. She has struck out 92 batters through 70.2 innings pitched.
No. 25 Northwestern (13-6) returns to action at 3 p.m. March 24 when it travels to Peoria, Ill. to take on Bradley, kicking off a stretch of eight games in seven days.
