EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern junior guard Jitim Young (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) has earned consensus All-Big Ten honors for the first time. The All-Big Ten teams were released this morning by the conference office.

Young, who has moved into a forward spot this season despite his 6-foot-2 stature, was a third-team selection by the conference coaches and earned honorable mention honors from a selected panel of media.

Young has been spectacular this season for the Wildcats, leading them in scoring (13.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.1 rpg) as well as with 45 steals. In Big Ten play, he averaged 15.4 ppg which places him ninth in the conference rankings, and he is also sixth among all Big Ten players with a .549 field-goal percentage; tied for eighth with 1.44 steals per game; and fourth with 2.50 offensive rebounds per game.

Young has led NU in scoring in a team-high 11 games this season and in rebounding nine times. He has hit double figures in scoring 18 times this season, including 14 of the last 18 contests, and had Big Ten double-doubles against Indiana (Feb. 5) and Wisconsin (Feb. 8). Among his 18 double-figure games are seven with 20 or more points.

Only a junior, Young is just 23 points shy of reaching 1,000 for his career; he would be the 25th player in NU history to achieve the milestone and the second this season (Winston Blake reached it on Feb. 5). Young would also be just the 13th NU player to reach 1,000 points in three seasons.

Illinois' Brian Cook was a unanimous selection as Big Ten Player of the Year, while Daniel Horton from Michigan was the unanimous Big Ten Rookie of the Year. The coaches voted Purdue's Kenneth Lowe as the Defensive Player of the Year, while the media voted Wisconsin's Bo Ryan as Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
