Wildcats Ranked No. 16 in CollegeSwimming.com Poll

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's men's swimming team has moved to No. 16 in the latest CollegeSwimming.com poll. The Wildcats are one of five teams in the Top 25 from the Big Ten Conference. After dominating the competition at the Purdue Invitational two weeks ago, the 'Cats have positioned themselves among the nation's elite.

A number of Northwestern swimmers have posted times in various events that rank among the top in the country as well.

Freshman Matt Grevers' 100 free time of 43.53 and 100 butterfly time of 47.72 are both currently the fastest times in the country this year. He swam the third fastest time in the nation in the 100 back and 50 freestyle with times of 47.64 and 20.05, respectively, as well.

Senior Mark Hamming has the fourth fastest time in the nation in both the 200 butterfly and the 200 individual medley with times of 1:46.06 and 1:48.12, respectively.

Tony Swanson's time of 1:48.22 in the 200 IM is the fifth best time recorded this season and Mike Alexandrov's 1:59.08 200 breaststroke time ranks fifth nationally. Alexandrov is also sixth in the 200 IM with a time of 1:48.51.

Four Northwestern relay teams rank in the top 10 as well. The 400 freestyle relay team's time of 2:58.14 is the second fastest in the nation, while the 400 medley relay team is fourth with a 3:16.20 mark. The 800 and 200 freestyle relay teams rank eighth and ninth, respectively.

The Wildcats are scheduled to swim next in Hawaii over the holiday break. Times and opponents remain TBD.
