EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's basketball team will give fans a glimpse of how the preseason is progressing Tuesday night, when the Wildcats host the Coaches vs. Cancer All-Stars in an exhibition game.

Tipoff at Welsh-Ryan Arena is slated for 7 p.m. Admission is free to Northwestern students who present their WILDCARD and $5 for the general public.

In addition to the action on the court, there will be plenty of activity in and around Welsh-Ryan Arena off the court. At halftime of Tuesday night's game, the American Cancer Society (ACS) will be presenting a check to Gayle Woloschak, PhD, a Northwestern University researcher. Woloschak, a Society-funded researcher since 1985, is currently studying how cells respond to radiation and how titanium nano particles can be used to fight cancer. She is an ACS volunteer and a professor in the Department of Radiology at NU's Feinberg School of Medicine.

The ACS is also hoping to use the game as a venue to get out information about November's Great American Smoke Out and the Second Annual Relay For Life of Northwestern University. Last May, the Wildcat basketball players were at the forefront of the first on-campus Relay For Life event.

"I would like to commend NU coach Bill Carmody for hosting this event," said Steven Derks, CEO of the American Cancer Society, Illinois Division. "Funds raised through programs like Coaches vs. Cancer are used to fund critical research."

The Coaches vs. Cancer program was created in 1993 by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The program exists to leverage the strength, community leadership and celebrity of our country's basketball coaches to fight cancer. The program raises awareness to the cancer problem and in turn, reduces cancer risk through education programs while raising funds for ACS research, advocacy, and patient service programs.

Since its inception, the Coaches vs. Cancer program has raised more than $16 million to benefit the ACS.
