Wide receiver Kunle Patrick extended the nation's longest consecutive reception strong to 43 games with a first-quarter catch. The NCAA Div. I record is 47 games, set last year by USC's Kareem Kelly.
Northwestern surrendered only its fourth and fifth first-quarter touchdowns today. Northwestern, which had outscored its opponents 51-24 in the first 15 minutes this season, also allowed its first first-quarter points since Sept. 27 vs. Ohio State.
Dominique Price recorded a career-high three tackles for loss for a total of 10 yards.
Northwestern entered today's game first in the country in fumbles lost with two. In the first half the Wildcats suffered three lost fumbles. Two were by quarterback Brett Basanez and one by running back Jason Wright. Coming into the game, NU was the only team in the country without a fumble by its backfield. Wright's fumble ended a string of carries without a fumble at 383, an NU record.
Sophomore running back Terrell Jordan finished with a career-high 87 rushing-yards on 16 carries. He shared game-high rushing honors with Purdue's Jerod Void, although Jordan had a better yards per carry average (5.4).
Northwestern rushed for 161, the most allowed by a Purdue defense this year by 55 yards. Penn State ran for 106 yards on the Boilermakers. Purdue entered the game as the nation's fourth-stingiest rush defense (70.9 ypg).
Sophomore Derell Jenkins scored his first career touchdown on a 5-yard run late in the contest.
