Loren Howard Earns Another Freshman All-America Honor

EVANSTON, Ill.-Northwestern freshman Loren Howard (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) earned his fourth Freshman All-America honor from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) on Friday. He has earned similar honors from The Sporting News, College Football News and Rivals.com, making him a unanimous first-team choice in 2002.

Howard, a true freshman who started all 12 games at defensive end for the Wildcats, totaled 81 tackles, including 13.5 tackles for loss -- the sixth-best figure in the Big Ten. Howard had a career-high 14 tackles in a win over Duke and a career-best three TFL versus Duke and Iowa.

He also was named The Sporting News' Big Ten Defensive Freshman of the Year.
