EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the Norris Aquatic Center for their first home competition in nearly two months when they host separate dual meets this weekend. The men face off against crosstown rival Illinois-Chicago at 6 p.m. Friday, while the women host two sessions against Tennessee at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday.
The last competition both teams hosted was from Nov. 22-24 when they each posted victories at the NU Invitational. The last dual meet the teams hosted was Nov. 15 against Wisconsin.
The Northwestern men and women are coming off decidedly different results last weekend. The women posted dual meet victories at Michigan State and Eastern Michigan, while the men dropped decisions to both the Spartans and the Eagles.
Jimmy Tierney's women's squad brings a 5-3 overall mark and 1-3 record into its showdown with the Lady Vols. Tennessee is 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the SEC. The Volunteers are currently receiving votes in the most recent CSCAA Top 25 Dual Meet Poll.
Despite battling through a number of injuries, the Wildcats are led by junior Erica Rose (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School). Rose earned Big Ten Female Swimmer of the Week honors after winning four events and placing second twice in the 'Cats two duals last weekend.
Northwestern and Tennessee have already faced off against each other earlier this season. During NU's training trip to Florida over semester break, it placed second at the Key Relay Invitational, while the Lady Vols finished third.
Bob Groseth's men's team brings a 2-6 overall record and 0-4 mark in the Big Ten into Friday night's dual. UIC is 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the Horizon League.
Like the women, NU's men are familiar with their weekend opponent. The Flames participated in the NU Relays on Oct. 27. Northwestern finished first at the meet, while Illinois-Chicago place fifth.
