Women's Volleyball Drops First Match of the Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Host University of San Diego rallied for a 17-15 victory in the decisive fifth game Friday night as the Toreros handed the Northwestern women's volleyball team its first loss of the season.
The Wildcats led 15-14 in the final game but San Diego scored the final three points of the game to win the match, 28-30, 30-15, 31-29, 28-30, 17-15. With the victory, the Toreros raise their record to 4-0 while Northwestern falls to 3-1.
Big Ten Player of the Week Iwona Lodzik (Tarnobrzeg, Poland) led the Wildcats with 20 kills while Sarah Ballog (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill.) added 15 kills apiece. Christie Gardner (West Bend, Wis.) recorded a match-high 20 digs for Northwestern.
The Wildcats posted a hitting percentage of just .171 for the match and were hurt by 35 attack errors. Noel Frohman led San Diego with 25 kills while Debra Robertson had 10 block assists.
Northwestern will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon when it takes on No. 23 North Carolina at 2 p.m. and Montana at 7 p.m.
