SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - In a sign that perhaps the bad luck of 2001 may be turning for 2002 season, the Northwestern women's soccer team emerged from two overtimes with a 0-0 draw against a Utah team ranked 23rd in the latest Soccer America poll Thursday afternoon at Ute Field in Salt Lake City.
NU salvaged the tie with the help of senior goalkeeper Susie McCreery (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), who made a career-high nine saves. At the other end, Lynnsey Asay was forced to make just one for Utah.
McCreery has now been the catalyst to NU's six-match regular-season shutout streak dating back to last season. The total match time elapsed in the streak is 590:15, all but 19 of which has been covered by McCreery.
Utah was unranked entering the season, but cracked Soccer America's poll on Tuesday after knocking off preseason No. 4 Portland in its opener last weekend.
Northwestern is back in action on Saturday night, taking on 24th-ranked Brigham Young in Provo, Utah.
