EVANSTON, Ill. - With the start of classes at Northwestern University yesterday, the Wildcats men's basketball program announced the arrival of Ivan Tolic. The Croatian is eligible to play immediately and is on the roster for the 2002-03 season.
"We're happy to have Ivan in Evanston for the upcoming season," said Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody. "He is a big guy who will give us some added depth in the frontcourt. He is a good defender in the post, especially, and I think he will be able to help take the load off Aaron Jennings in there."
Tolic adds to the worldly flavor that is beginning to define the Wildcats, as he becomes the third Croatian to join the program in the last two years. Vedran Vukusic and Davor Duvancic-both of whom, like Tolic, hail from Split-are sophomores this season. In addition, the Wildcats will boast a roster with Thomas Soltau, from Denmark; T.J. Parker, a French national; and Mohamed Hachad, a Moroccan whose family moved to Montreal a few years ago.
