Northwestern kicked off the fall season at the Notre Dame Invitational, winning four of its eight doubles matches against Ball State, William & Mary and Maryland. Singles play was postponed due to inclement weather.
Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School) paired up for an 8-5 win against the Cardinals' Chris Varga and Matt Baccarani. Freshman Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and Jackie Jenkins (College Park, Ga./Westlake) picked up an 8-6 win against Kevin Burnett and Patrick Thompson.
Jenkins and Schaechterle later knocked off Jeffrey Kader and Zach Malmgren of William & Mary, 8-5. Perrin and Josh Axler (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) paired up against Haris Causevic and Pierre Rudder of Maryland for a 9-7 win.
The Wildcats resume play Saturday against Harvard and Maryland with their first singles matches of the fall season.
