Volleyball Finishes 1-2 at Golden Dome Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Northwestern recorded 27 total blocks compared to just six for Loyola College (Md.) as the Wildcats wrapped up play at the Golden Dome Invitational in South Bend, Ind. with a three-game sweep of the Greyhounds 30-20, 30-16, 30-18.
Included in the 27 blocks were 26 block assists, which ties for the fourth-highest single-match total in school history. It is the highest three-game match total in NU history with all of other matches having gone either four or five games.
With the victory, Northwestern finished the tournament 1-2 while their record moves to 5-4 overall.
All 15 Wildcats saw playing time with Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill.) leading the way with 12 kills and six block assists. Molly Kamp (Stevensville, Mich.) and Jill Buschur (New Bremen, Ohio) added seven kills apiece while Leah Delcourt (Rock Island, Ill.) posted a career-high eight total blocks.
Loyola was forced into 31 hitting errors and hit -.070 for the match. Northwestern also recorded 13 service aces compared to just two for the Greyhounds.
In the opening match of the day, the Wildcats continued its trend of playing one of the top teams in the country close without coming away with a victory.
Northwestern gave No. 10 Pepperdine a close match, but fell in three games 30-25, 30-26, 30-26.
Iwona Lodzik (Tarnobrzeg, Poland) tallied a team-high 12 kills and Lizzie Carlson (Palo Alto, Calif.) totaled 12 digs in defeat.
Lange was honored as an all-tournament team selection for the third time this season.
The Wildcats return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday when they take on DePaul in the home opener as part of the Wildcat Classic at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
