LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Ashleigh Garmon (Oxnard, Calif./Buena) scored three goals and added an assist for a school-record seven points to lead Northwestern to a 4-0 win over the University of Louisville in women's soccer action Friday evening at Cardinal Park.

The loss upped NU's record to 2-1-1 and snapped a two-match win streak for the Cardinals (2-3).

Garmon's hat trick was just the fourth in the nine-year history of the NU women's soccer program, and the first since Dionna Latimer netted three against Creighton on Oct. 25, 1996. With the assist, Garmon finished the evening with seven points, which broke the previous record of six set four previous times.

The Wildcats (2-1-1) got on the board at the 28:23 mark when freshman Tabitha Lowey (Peachtree City, Ga./Mcintosh) took a pass from Garmon and found the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Eleven minutes later, Garmon scored her first goal of the night off an assist from freshman Molly Maxfield (Denver, Colo./East) to give NU a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Northwestern senior Aileen Guiney (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) blasted a shot that Cardinal goalkeeper Meredith Miller blocked, but Garmon was in position to knock home the rebound at 69:04. Garmon then completed the hat trick at 83:53 when she took a pass at the top of the box from junior Kristen Pearce (Morrison, Colo./Bear Creek) that left her all alone against Miller.

"I thought we played well, we played hard tonight," said NU head coach Jenny Haigh. "We kept a good pace and intensity throughout the match, and we had a lot of players come off the bench and do really well. We looked like a deep, strong team tonight."

Northwestern outshot the Cardinals 17-2, and `Cats goalkeeper Susie McCreery was forced to make just one save in collecting her third shutout in four matches this season. At the other end, Miller registered six saves on the night for the Cards.

Northwestern is back in action Sunday afternoon, taking on 19th-ranked Kentucky at 2 p.m. Eastern in Lexington. It will mark NU's third match against a ranked opponent already this season.
