EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern center Austin King (Cincinnati, Ohio/Purcell Marian) has been named to the Watch List for the 2002 Rimington Trophy, the trophy committee announced today. Established in 2000, the Rimington Trophy honors the top NCAA Division 1-A center each season.

King has established himself as a reliable leader during his tenure at NU, earning team captain honors heading into his final campaign. He has started 32 career games, including 29 in a row from 1999-2001. King and fellow captain Pat Durr are the only current 'Cats to have appeared in every game since the start of the 1999 season.

The two-time Wildcat Warrior Award Winner led NU's offensive linemen in knockdowns during each of the last two seasons. The Sporting News ranked King the fourth-best center in the nation heading into the 2002 season, while the Football Writers' Association of America named King and fellow lineman Jeff Roehl to its All-America Watch List.

King is one of four Big Ten snappers up for the Rimington Trophy. Bruce Nelson (Iowa), Brian Ottney (Michigan State) and Al Johnson (Wisconsin) also were named to the Watch List. Ohio State's LeCharles Bentley won the award following the 2001 season.

The Rimington Trophy will be presented Dec. 14 in Lincoln, Neb. For more information, visit www.RimingtonTrophy.com.
