Dan Pohlman Will Give Up Football and Concentrate Solely on Baseball

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Dan Pohlman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) has announced he is leaving the Wildcat football team in order to concentrate solely on his baseball career. Pohlman was listed as a backup middle linebacker on the Wildcats' 2002 preseason depth chart.

Pohlman competed for both football and baseball squads his first two years at Northwestern. This past year, he played special teams and reserve linebacker for the football 'Cats, and made a start against Illinois in the season-ending game, replacing Billy Silva who was sidelined with a knee injury. Pohlman finished the 2001 season with 37 tackles and a forced fumble.

On the baseball field in 2002, Pohlman hit .252 (.299 in Big Ten play) with 15 RBI. As a pitcher, he went 3-3 with two saves and a 6.51 ERA.
