EVANSTON, Ill. -- After reviewing its April spring practice drills, Northwestern University has released its preseason football depth chart.
The chart reflects the positioning of players when they begin preseason drills in August.
"We learned some things about our football team, but by no means are we finished yet," says Head Coach Randy Walker. "As you can tell, the race at running back is still wide open, especially with the return of Kevin Lawrence in the fall.
"I expect an extremely competitive camp in August."
The biggest move following the spring evaluations comes with junior Torri Stuckey (Robbins, Ill./D.D. Eisenhower). In order to add some size and strength to the secondary, Stuckey is being moved to free safety.
"Our job is to try and take the personnel we have and put them in the best position to help this football team," says Walker. "We have no questions about Torri's offensive abilities -- he's already had some success as a running back in the Big Ten. But Torri has some of the characteristics and instincts that you need to play safety. And he is the type of player who will do whatever is best to help this football team win."
Preseason camp begins August 5 for freshmen and August 8 for veterans.
