Box Score

HONOLULU - Hawaii led off Monday evening's game with four straight singles and scored three runs in the first inning en route to a 6-2 win over Northwestern at Rainbow Stadium. The Wildcats are now 9-8-1. For the trip they posted a 5-3 mark.

Right-hander Lauren Schwendiman allowed three runs on five hits in the first inning to put the 'Cats in a quick hole. Schwendimann record drops to 7-2 after being named to the All-Tournament Team over the weekend. For the game she surrendered nine hits and four earned runs.

The 'Cats shaved the deficit in half with two runs in the fifth on Rane Gunderson's two-RBI single up the middle.

Hawaii then added two insurance runs in the sixth when Stacie Hirano hit a two-run shot over the right field fence-the first of her career. The Rainbows were allowed the extra at-bat after first baseman Gretchen Barnes bobbled a groundball that would have been the final out of the inning.

Errors have hurt the 'Cats all year. They currently hold a .949 team fielding percentage.

NU put their leadoff runner on in the seventh, but Robyn Pettinger lined into a 1-3 double play to all but end the game.

Erin Jancic continues to stay hot at the plate for the 'Cats. The senior is leading the team with a .368 average, 21 hits, 18 runs and a .561 slugging percentage.

The 'Cats are next in action on Sunday when they open their Big Ten season at home with a doubleheader against Indiana. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
