LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Led by Gretchen Barnes' second two-home run game of the season, the Northwestern softball team hammered Belmont, 12-2, Saturday afternoon in the second day of the Louisville Tournament. The 'Cats bring their record back to the .500 mark for the fifth time this year at 6-6-1. The rest of the tournament was canceled due to the cold and rain.
The Wildcats, who managed only 11 hits in two games yesterday, pounded the Bruin pitching staff for 17. All but one starter got a hit-five 'Cats had multi-hit games.
Barnes, who hit back-to-back home runs against Sacramento State, started the scoring barrage with her first of two home runs, a solo shot over the left center fence. She singled in two runs in the third, then brought in two more with her second long ball of the afternoon. One more home run and she will tie Karen Lemke for the NU career record. For the game, Barnes was 3-for-3 with five RBI and three runs scored.
Erin Jancic was also perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four runs and an RBI. The RBI was the 92nd of her career, which makes her the all-time leader at NU.
Carri Leto added three RBI for the game with a triple and a double.
Brie Brown picks up her first win of the season, throwing seven complete innings and striking out six.
