EVANSTON, Ill. - The following are quotes from the press conference following Wednesday night's 61-48 Northwestern win over Purdue in men's basketball.
Purdue Head Coach Gene Keady
On his team's performance...
"That's just more of the same for us. We got off to a good lead, then hit a dry spell and we shot quick. And we had more turnovers than assists. Every team that's winning in the league has more assists than turnovers."
On losing an 11-2 lead...
"Their press bothered us. And we didn't have our best ballhandlers in there so we could have our best defenders in there. Their press kept us out of rhythm. And we missed a couple of layups in there."
On Northwestern...
"They do a good job of back cutting. And they hit five threes. They play well together. They play with a lot of heart and pride, because they've never really won big here. They play smart, switching on defense. You have to make good passing decisions."
On his team's passing troubles...
"Passing decisions is one of the things we've been poor at. We have trouble seeing the defense, reading the defense. And we didn't feed the post well. We couldn't get the ball to John (Allison)."
Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody
On the early deficit...
"They jumped out on us. I've been here two years and they've always been up by 10 after five minutes. This time we were down 11-2 after a few minutes, but after the timeout I think Collier got a steal, Jitim got a basket and the crowd got behind the guys."
On what was said during the first timeout...
"I think we asked them 'What are we doing here, guys?' We've got a veteran team here, two seniors, two juniors and a sophomore. They've got experience and know what to do."
On a 10-2 home record...
"That was the only goal we had this year, to defend our home court. We can't say we're young anymore. We should win games at home."
On the trend of strong conference performances...
"Last season we won three of the last six games in conference, that was about a year ago. So since that time we are one game over .500 for a year. They have just improved. They're older, more mature. We've been consistent and haven't really played bad games this season."
