EVANSTON, Ill. - The following are coach quotes from Wednesday night's press conference following Northwestern's 58-56 win over Minnesota in men's basketball action at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Minnesota Head Coach Dan Monson

On his team's performance...
"I wasn't pleased with our effort. We can't go on the road and get outplayed in the effort department. I look at 17 offensive rebounds as the difference in the game. We weren't tough-minded enough. We didn't rebound well enough, we didn't take care of the ball."

On the final seconds of the game...
"When it comes down to the last two seconds, everything has to work perfectly."

On Northwestern's strategy to foul with the lead...
"That's 50-50. Some coaches are comfortable with that, some aren't."

On losing the lead...
"We took three straight three's. We had an eight-point lead and we took three three's."

On forward Travarus Bennett...
"I had him in there at the end, and I probably shouldn't have. It hurt us all game, not having his scrap rebounds. But that isn't an excuse. It's part of the game. I think he'll be better on Saturday."

Northwestern Head Coach Bill Carmody

On his team's performance...
"This was a real good college game, it wasn't perfect on either side. I was happy, because one goal we had was to win at home and be competitive on the road. Tonight we were competitive and we won. A lot of guys contributed."

On the strategy to foul with the lead...
"It is a lot easier to make a three-pointer with four seconds left than to miss a foul shot and try to put it in."

On the physical nature of the game...
"It was an emotional game. It's not chess, and there were a lot of bodies bumping. Both teams were competing."

On the possibility of postseason play...
"We haven't talked about it yet. Let's talk about it when the situation arises."
