Wildcats Finish Second at Key Relay Invitational

KEY WEST, Fla. - Participating in its first formal competition in nearly a month, the Northwestern women's swim team finished second at the Keys Relay Invitational in Key West, Fla. The Wildcats earned three first place finishes and seven runner-up finishes in amassing 128 team points. Florida State, ranked 20th in the most recent CSCAA Top 25 poll, finished first with 154 points. Tennessee was third with 98 points and Ohio State was fourth with 76.
Sara Petric (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) and Carmen Cosgrove (Perth, Australia) were members of each of the Wildcats' winning relay teams. The duo teamed with Katie Paglini (Chicago, Ill./Latin School) in earning NU's first victory in the 3x100 backstroke, finishing in a time of 2:55.46. Petric and Cosgrove then joined up with Erin Swenson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) and Vicky West (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) to capture the title in the cresendo relay, winning in 4:37.25.
Petric and Cosgrove wrapped up their three victory day by combining with Paige Nath (Wichita, Kan./Trinity Acadamy) and Marijana Surkovic (Dubrovnik, Croatia/Economy) in winning the 200 free relay in a time of 1:37.06.
Swenson, Nath, Paglini and Rachel Johnson (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) were each members of three runner-up relay squads.
Northwestern will return to action at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 when it travels to Michigan State.
