EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University's Department of Athletics has announced a series of promotions and events surrounding this Saturday's men's basketball game between the Wildcats and Bowling Green. Tipoff at Welsh-Ryan Arena is set for 1 p.m and tickets are still available (call 847-491-CATS for tickets).

*Ricky Byrdsong Foundation Day. For the fourth straight year, Northwestern has donated 1,000 tickets for Saturday's game to the Ricky Byrdsong Foundation, which was founded by Byrdsong's wife Sherialyn after the hate-related murder of the former Wildcat men's basketball coach in the summer of 1999. All proceeds on the sale of those tickets will go directly to the Foundation. In addition, Sherialyn will speak at halftime, and she will be available at a booth before and after the contest in the lobby. To order tickets that will benefit the Foundation, call toll-free at 1-877-BRD-SONG (273-7664).

*Joey McIntyre will sing the national anthem. The former New Kids On The Block member has embarked on a solo music career and will be in town for a sold-out show at Nevin's Live in Evanston Saturday night. He has sung the anthem at numerous sporting events. Currently, McIntyre is also a star on the Fox Television show "Boston Public."

*Toys For Tots Promotion. Northwestern and the United States Marine Corps Reserves are once again teaming up for this promotion, which will take place Saturday as well as Dec. 19 when NU takes on Illinois-Chicago. The USMC will staff the Welsh-Ryan lobby, collecting toys for underprivileged children in the area from the time gates open (one hour before tip) through halftime. Fans who bring unwrapped toys to the game will receive a coupon good for a 50-percent discount on tickets to either game. Fans who already have tickets to those games are certainly encouraged to bring toys to benefit Chicagoland's underprivileged children.

*Take A Kid to the Game Day. Every child aged 13 and under will be admitted into the game free with each paid adult, the equivalent of two Wildcat basketball tickets for only $16! This offer is valid on the day of the game or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office.
