MADISON, Wis. - Northwestern and Wisconsin battled to a standstill for the majority of Saturday's match in Madison, Wis., but a late goal sealed a narrow 1-0 win for the Badgers. With the loss, NU dropped to 8-10, 0-5 in the Big Ten.
Phil Doeh put in the game-winning goal for the Badgers with a little more than three minutes to play. Noah Goerlitz was credited with the assist.
J.D. Martin (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) corralled six saves to keep the Wildcats in the match. Wisconsin outshot Northwestern 21-7.
NU had its chances, as Steve Jedlinski (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and Dave Vargas (North Olmsted, Ohio/St.Ignatius) each had two shots on goal, but Badger goalkeeper Eric Hanson turned away five shots to preserve the shutout.
Northwestern returns to action Sunday, Nov. 10 against Ohio State in the season-finale at Lakeside Field. Gametime is set for noon.
