EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern capped off its regular season Sunday with a 2-0 loss against Ohio State at Lakeside Field. With the loss, NU dropped to 8-11 on the season.
Andy Rosenband netted both Buckeye goals and Sam Tamporello added a pair of assists. Rosenband scored the game-winner at the 16:21 mark and put in another in the second half. Chad Brown, who made six saves, picked up his eighth shutout of the year.
Despite the score, Northwestern kept the match within reach. The Buckeyes only had one more shot than the Wildcats, and J.D. Martin (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) picked up six saves. The 'Cats also had a 3-0 corner kick advantage.
"We defended pretty well," said NU head coach Tim Lenahan. "We were right there with a team that averages a lot of shots and goals. But to play as well as you can play and still not win is disappointing."
NU's six seniors were honored before the game for their contributions to the program, and Lenahan said their impact has been significant.
"I'm really proud of the way these guys have developed," Lenahand said. "These seniors are playing the best soccer of their lives. It's a good feeling as a coach."
Northwestern returns to action Thursday against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament, which will be held in University Park, Pa. from Nov. 14-17.
