NU Swim Teams Fall to Wisconsin

EVANSTON, Ill. - Brielle Bovee (Winter Park, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) remained undefeated this season in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, but it wasn't enough, as the Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving teams each fell to Wisconsin Friday night at the Norris Aquatics Center. NU's men fell to the Badgers 159-128, while the women lost 172-125.
The loss drops the Wildcat women to 3-3 overall in dual meets and 0-3 in the Big Ten, while the men fall to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Bovee finished first in the 100 breast in a time of 1:04.79. The Northwestern Female Athlete of the Week captured the 200 title in 2:18.40.
Carmen Cosgrove (Perth, Austraila) was also a double-winner for the Wildcats. The senior won the 200 butterfly in 2:04.45, and followed the effort up with a first in the 100 fly in 56.94.
Ashley Carter (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) claimed Northwestern's other two first-place finishes, winning the 1-meter (286.35) and 3-meter (343.65) diving competitions with season-best scores.
On the men's side, freshman diver Mike Oxman (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) was the lone double-winner. Oxman won the 1-meter competition with a score of 337.88 and the 3-meter with a 346.95 score.
Five other NU athletes also claimed first-place finishes. Tony Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) won the 200 individual medley (1:51.33) and Louis Torres (Morton Grove, Ill./Niles West) captured the 100 breast title (57.26).
The 'Cats also got victories by Kellan O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Preparatory) in the 200 butterfly (1:47.35), Brian Davis in the 1,000 freestyle (9:28.86) and Mike Shue in the 500 free (4:32.39).
Both teams will return to action next weekend when they host the NU Invitational Nov. 22-24.
