LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Northwestern women's soccer team had never had more than two ties in a single season, but that mark has long since been shattered. On Friday, the Wildcats added to that portion of their ledger, earning a 1-1 draw with Wyoming in Laramie.
The match was suspended after just 4:58 of the overtime session had been played, due to impending darkness and extremely chilly conditions.
The Wildcats moved to 4-8-5 on the season, tying for the third time in the last four matches to add to their school-record total for draws. Wyoming is now 4-11-2.
NU got on the board first, when Julie Lipinski (Tinley Park, Ill./Marian Catholic) finished off a pass from Tabitha Lowey (Peachtree City, Ga./Mcintosh) with just 1:18 left in the first half. The goal was Lipinski's second this season, while Lowey notched her fourth assist.
Wyoming knotted the match in the 57th minute, when Lindsey Vossbrink converted a feed from Sarah Skinner.
Northwestern outshot the Cowgirls, 15-13, and took eight corner kicks to Wyoming's none. But the Wildcats could not push home the game-winner. Susie McCreery (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) had six saves in the Northwestern goal, while Wyoming's Sarah Kuyper and Lori Scheider combined for five stops.
Northwestern closes out the 2002 season at Colorado College Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
