BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Northwestern gave No. 4 Indiana a scare but fell short 1-0 Sunday in Bloomington, Ind. With the loss, the Wildcats dropped to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers, who have won eight straight matches, improved to 10-1-2, 5-0.
IU's Josh Reiher scored the game-winner at the 12:41 mark and Indiana held on for the win. Pat Noonan and Ned Grabavoy each notched an assist.
The 'Cats' goalkeeper J.D. Martin (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) kept NU in the game, collecting eight saves on the afternoon. Martin now has 58 saves and a 1.18 goals-against average this season.
Northwestern created a couple of scoring opportunities late in the game, but Indiana was able to clear the ball each time.
IU outshot NU 20-6. Tito Lara (Joliet, Ill./Joliet) led the Wildcats with two shots and the Hoosiers' Ryan Mack had five.
Northwestern returns to action on Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. at Illinois-Chicago.
