STOCKTON, Calif. - The Northwestern volleyball team (3-2) caught fire in Game Three for a win against George Washington (0-5) in a 3-1 match (21-30, 30-27, 30-16, 30-16).

The Wildcats were led by sophomore outside hitter Molly Kamp (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) who posted 11 kills, nine digs and six blocks. Junior outside hitter Kelli Meyer (Madison, Wisc./Edgewood) and freshman setter Drew Robertson (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) each had a match-high 14 digs, while Robertson had 32 assists.

The Colonials were held to a match hitting percentage of .042, continuing a low-percentage trend among Northwestern opponents. The Wildcats outblocked GWU 17-2 and had half as many hitting errors. George Washington was led by Laura Harrison, who had a match-high 13 kills and 9 digs. Four Colonials posted double-digit digs in the match.

Looking a little sluggish in the early morning match, the Wildcats committed a plethora of errors and three net violations to lose the first game. Neither team took a decisive lead in Game Two, but the 'Cats stayed ahead thanks to four blocks by Robertson and another mid-game hot streak by junior middle blocker Sarah Ballog (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita). Ballog had two kills and three blocks in the span of seven plays to give Northwestern a three-point lead.

In Game Three the Wildcats went on a 10-2 streak to keep the game out of the Colonials' reach, leading by as much as 14. Things started clicking for the 'Cats after a four point streak made possible by good defense from Robertson and sophomore Lindsay Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif./Mater Dei), seeing her first action after surgery on the back row.

Freshman middle blocker Jill Buschur (New Bremen, Ohio/New Bremen) made an impression in her first significant appearance of the season, with six kills and two blocks in the final two games. In those last games Northwestern had the momentum rolling and held GWU to only 16 points each game, the lowest score of an opponent so far this season.

Northwestern is back in action tonight at 7 p.m. PST as they take on the host Pacific Tigers in the final match of the Nike Pacific Invitational.
