EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University has added Bowling Green State University, a member of the Mid-American Conference, to its 2001 home football schedule. The two schools will meet at NU's Ryan Field at 11 a.m. CST on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The Bowling Green game replaces the Sept. 15 Navy contest, which was canceled last week following the terrorist attacks on the East Coast. No open available dates existed for a makeup game with the Midshipmen.

"We're excited about having an opportunity to play an 11th game," said Northwestern head coach Randy Walker. "You only get 44 regular-season opportunities during a four-year career, so getting the chance to play another game is meaningful to our players. Bowling Green has a quality program and one I'm very familiar with."

Any ticket-holder for this past weekend's Northwestern-Navy game now has three options with the addition of the Nov. 17 contest. These three options apply to all Northwestern student tickets as well. They are:

* Tickets good for the Sept. 15 game can be presented for admission to the Nov. 17 game vs. Bowling Green. Fans who have season parking passes will use the Navy pass for admission to parking lots. (There are no refunds for parking.)
* Tickets for the Sept. 15 game can be returned to the Northwestern Ticket Office and the refund will be donated to the American Red Cross. Tickets must be returned by Oct. 16, 2001.
* Tickets for the Sept. 15 game can be returned to the Northwestern Ticket Office for a refund (check or a credit to a credit card). Refunds must be requested by Oct. 16, 2001.
(All ticket holders of record will receive a postcard with these options.)

Ticket-holders who purchased through the U.S. Naval Academy and want a refund should contact Navy. Any tickets purchased through Ticketmaster can be refunded through Ticketmaster or used for the Nov. 17 game.

"We hope that a majority of our ticket-holders for Navy can attend the Bowling Green game," said Rick Taylor, Northwestern's director of athletics. "We realize, however, that fans may have previous commitments that day. Many people have suggested to us that they want the cost of the ticket that they could not use to go to a relief organization in the wake of the tragic events of last Tuesday. We want to accommodate these requests."

All promotional tickets that were scheduled for the Sept. 15 game-including "Take a Kid to the Game Day," "Evanston Chamber of Commerce Day," "Evanston City Employees Day," and "N Club Day,"-will be honored for the Nov. 17 game.
