EVANSTON, Ill. - With Rashidi Wheeler's parents at his side, Northwestern football coach Randy Walker introduced Kevin Bentley at a press conference Monday afternoon and announced that he would wear Wheeler's No. 30 this fall. Previously, Bentley wore No. 2.

"I am going to change my number to No. 30, to honor my brother Rashidi," said Bentley after he was introduced. "We came in together, we've grown up together, and we've done a lot of things together. I'm going to change my number to let him know that he is always going to be with us this year, and forever. This way, he can go out the way he should."

Further details on ways of honoring Wheeler this season and beyond will be announced later. However, Walker promised that Wheeler would be honored beyond the 2001 season.

"We think and believe that Rashidi will not only be a very big aspect of our program this year," said Walker. "We can ensure -- and I've promised the family -- that there will be an ongoing legacy to Rashidi Wheeler. There will be more honors and more remembrances, and I promise you he will be a part of our program, a part of Northwestern football, forever."
