
Field Hockey Falls to Hofstra, 3-2

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern field hockey team fell to 1-2 on the year losing 3-2 to Hofstra at Lakeside Field. Senior Nicole Smith (Warnbro, Western Australia) and sophomore Katie Fischer (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) led the offense, each scoring a goal. It was Smith's second of the season and the first of Fischer's collegiate career. Fischer's goal came with 5:12 remaining in the first half to tie the score at 1-1. Hofstra took the lead 12 minutes later but held it for just under two minutes when Smith scored on a perfectly executed penalty corner. Lindsey Millard (St, Louis, Mo./St. Louis Country Day) and Suzi Sutton (York, Pa./Dallastown) assisted on the corner. This was the third straight game Sutton has recorded an assist. Hofstra's Leslie King scored the game-winner with 17:36 remaining in the game.
Both teams tallied five shots on goal and NU directed four penalty corners compared to none for Hofstra. The 'Cats host the Cardinals of Ball State at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2 at Lakeside Field.
