KENOSHA, Wis.-The Northwestern football team, in front of a large media contingeny, kicked off the season with its first two-a-day practices Friday.
The Wildcats went through a two-hour morning workout at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside grass facility and another two-hour afternoon session.
"I thought it was a pretty good first day. I think we can be a good football team," said Head Coach Randy Walker. "It looks like we might have some depth in some places that we not had depth since I've been here. I see some exciting things and some exciting young players. Not only from the new guys, but guys who have been in our program-our second year players have made some strides and that's important. There is some work to be done. The offense threw to the other side too a couple of times and the defense let them run through pretty easily. We have to take those errors and improve. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good day."
Northwestern will return to the practice field Saturday with 8:40 a.m. and 4 p.m. workouts.
