Football Selected 12th in Sports Illustrated's Top 25

EVANSTON, ILL. - Selected as the preseason favorite in the Big Ten, Northwestern was tabbed No. 12 in the latest issue of Sports Illustrated. The SI preseason poll tabbed Oregon State No. 1, while picking Florida a close second. Miami, Texas and last year's national champion, Oklahoma, round out the top five.
Along with a top 25 preseason ranking, SI's Ivan Maisel has rated NU running back Damien Anderson as his Heisman favorite. Ken Simonton (TB, Oregon State), Chris Simms (QB, Texas), Ken Dorsey (QB, Miami) and Lito Shepard (CB/WR/KR, Florida) are Maisel's top five choices to end up at the Downtown Athletic Club in mid-December.
"He's in the perfect offense for his talents," says Maisel.
Northwestern has been rated in the top 25 of every major preseason football poll thus far and selected as high as 11th by Football Digest.
