EVANSTON, Ill. - Redshirt freshman quarterback Tony Stauss completed nine of 12 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the Wildcats' first intrasquad scrimmage of the spring season. Stauss directed three scoring drives, one with the second team offense and two more with the first unit. Stauss threw a 41-yard scoring strike to Ronnie Foster and a 29-yard TD pass to Kunle Patrick. Foster led the 'Cats with six catches for 69 yards and one score.

"Tony Stauss had an outstanding day," head coach Randy Walker said after the scrimmage. "It's nice to see the youngsters step up. Tony started playing No. 2 offense and was productive, so we moved him up to No. 1 and we were very impressed. It's hard for a guy to come in and lead the No. 1s , but Tony excelled."

Sophomore running back Torri Stuckey ran for two touchdowns as the Wildcat offensive units scored five touchdowns on the day. Stuckey finished with 60 yards on the ground.

Defensively, the 'Cats intercepted two passes and returned them for scores. Redshirt freshman Marvin Ward returned a pick 70 yards and sophomore Brandon Evans returned an interception from 78 yards out. In addition, Onaje Grimes, Ben Kennedy and Ray Bogenrief all had sacks.

Overall on the day, the first offense went up against the first defense seven times, scoring two touchdowns and missing a 38-yard field goal. The second offense went up against the second defense seven times, as well, scoring three times but also falling victim to both interceptions.

All-American running back Damien Anderson did not see any action and senior quarterback Zak Kustok saw limited playing time.

"I think we did a very nice job today," said Walker. "There are still some things that we need to work on, but overall, I was pleased. I was impressed with how well the defense played. They were very physical and we came out with no injuries. It's great when we can play that physical of a game and no one gets injured."

Northwestern has now completed two weeks of spring practice, with six sessions down including four that have been in full pads.

The Wildcats will continue spring practices for the next two weeks, concluding with the Spring Game Presented by Ameritech Yellow Pages April 21 at Ryan Field. Game time for the Spring Game is noon.
