EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University men's basketball coach Bill Carmody announced that Ben Johnson, who recently completed his sophomore season for the Wildcats, will transfer from Northwestern.

"Ben has asked for a release from his scholarship, and we are honoring that request," said Carmody. "We are sorry to see him leave the program, and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."

Johnson averaged 10.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 31.9 minutes per game this season to finish second on the team in all three categories. He was also second on the team with 74 assists, and had 27 steals.

Johnson led Northwestern in scoring his first season, averaging 11.6 points per game to become just the fourth player in NU history to lead the team in scoring as a freshman.
